Information on Dhanteras
Igniting prosperity and contentment! Also known as Yamadeepdaan, Dhanteras is one of the auspicious festivals of the Hindus. The event falls on the thirteenth day of Ashwin, two days before Diwali; this year on 19th October. Dhan means money. There are few legends related to this event. To welcome the Goddess of Wealth, houses and business areas are renovated and colored; ladies draw small footprints with rice flour paste and vermilion powder, intricate motifs or rangoli with multi color powders. To repel the shadow of evil spirits and bring in prosperity, health and long life, small clay oil lamps are lit every where the whole night. Indian suppliers experience a rush in sales as the people are exhilarated in the festive mood. Celebrations include shopping of new clothes, jewelry, new utensils, sweets and beautiful lanterns, especially for Dhantrayodashi. On the occasion, corporate and any enterprise find it the perfect time to gift their employees. Gift hampers are marked with corporate name and logo; also used for promotional handouts.
