Arrival of the Elephant -headed God. Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi is celebrated in varied ways by devotees from different parts of India. On 27TH August, 2006 4th day of the fortnight in Bhadrapad, this festival will bring the festive aura. The worship lasts from 2 to 10 days and brings the festive season of melas or fairs. The ritual includes the idol bathed with milk, curd, ghee, honey and jiggery (panchamrit). Modak or modagam and karanjis form the fundamental sweet dish offered to Lord Ganesh or Siddhivinayak. Sweets are also exchanged among the devotees. This festival is one of the celebrated events among the Hindus in India and the world. People exchange gifts like Ganesh or Vakratunda idols and calendars, sweets, dry fruits, pooja accessories. In the corporate and business arena, Ganesh Chaturthi or Anant Chaturdashi proves to be an important occasion to gift to their employees.
