Hanuman continues to be regarded as a symbol of bravery and strength. The belief in Hanuman's magical powers and the ability to be triumphant over evil are legendary. To commemorate the birth of the deity, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla purnima (March/April full moon). The celebration of this festival in the year 2007 on the 2nd of April.
Hanuman or Pavanputra was an ardent devotee of Lord Ram and son of Vayu the wind (Pavan). He practiced celibacy along with humility and devoted his life selflessly towards serving Lord Ram. On this auspicious day devotees attend the Hanuman (Maruti) temple and smear sindoor on their foreheads, from Hanuman's body. Singing hymns of Bajrangbali and Shri Ram and reading the Hanuman Chalisa are part of the celebration on this day.
Prasad or the offerings made to God are gifts along with fruits, sweets, and religious books. An interesting promotional gift from a corporation on this festival of strength.
