Hanuman is the symbol of bravery and strength. He is believed to have magical powers and ability to triumph over evil spirits. To commemorate the birth of the deity, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla purnima (March/April full moon day). In 2007, the auspicious day arrives on 2nd April.
Hanumanji or Pavanputra was an ardent devotee of Lord Ram and son of Vayu-the wind (Pavan) god. He practiced celibacy along with humility and devoted his life selflessly towards serving Lord Ram. On this auspicious day devotees attend the Hanuman (Maruti) temple and smear sindoor on their foreheads, from Hanuman's body. This is considered as good luck. Singing hymns of Bajrangbali and Shri Ram and reading the Hanuman Chalisa are certain rituals practiced on this day.
People exchange prasad or the offerings made to God, fruits, sweets, religious books and greetings. In the corporate arena, the employees are gifted with novelties, greetings, posters and idols of Hanumanji. These gifts are personalized with corporate insignia and also used for promotions.
