Makar Sankranti is a harvest festival in India. The earth moves out of Dakshinayan and the Paush month and enters Uttarayan and the Paush month. Makar mean Capricorn and Sankranti means transition. In the zodiac, sun transits from Saggitarius into Capricorn on the14th day of January every year. There's a belief that the sun meets son Saturn for the month. Makar Sankranti is celebrated as Lohri and Maghi in Punjab, Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and Bhogali Bihu in Assam. Pilgrims from all over India attend the Ganga Sagar fair in Bengal. Kite flying along with the Sankrant festival is pre-dominant in Gujarat Sweets known as a laddus made of sesame (til) and jaggery are prepared in homes.
